Audi’s strong-selling, compact crossover SUV, the Q5 is all-new for the 2018 model year. The second-generation is based on the new platform and features slightly sharper styling. Changes are, however, more notable inside the cabin and the newest Q5 delivers the high level of technologies and passenger comfort. The redesigned compact ute is available with the all-wheel drive by default and the base four-cylinder turbocharged engine is currently default engine option. Audi will also offer the SQ5 version powered with the 354 ponies from the turbo V-6. However, Audi will expand Q5’s range with another version and it will be the 2018 Audi Q5 Hybrid. The electrified Q5 is already undergoing testing and should join sometime in 2018 possibly as the 2019 model as well.
2018 Audi Q5 Hybrid: Powertrain
There should be no surprises about the powering system of the 2018 Audi Q5 Hybrid. The most frugal and greener version of the Q5 will carry Audi’s e-tron badging and promises good performance combined with better fuel efficiency.
The combo powering the Q5 Hybrid will include Audi’s 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with the power capability of around 188 hp while the torque will be reaching 236 lb-ft. The seven-speed automatic transmission will also be the part of the system while the electric motor will be assisting with 108 hp and torque of 221 lb-ft.
The electric power will be provided by the floor-mounted lithium ion battery pack. It should provide the pure-electric range in the area around 31 miles.
The power for the front wheels will come from the combustion engine while the rear axle will get the torque from the electric motor for car’s Quattro propulsion. The model will also include electronically assisted steering and Dynamic suspension system.
2018 Audi Q5 Hybrid: Design
Concerning the styling of the 2018 Audi Q5 Hybrid, it will be pretty much the same as the regular version but with a few details to make the distinction like the e-tron badging. The model should also feature slightly modified rear bumper and unique wheel design. Some trim details on the front should also make the distinction.
Expect also the interior to share very similar design as already available conventionally powered models. Audi will, of course, highlight the Q5 Hybrid interior with some unique accents but it should offer many of the features available on the standard version. It will be available with the Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster and latest infotainment system. There will also be the high comfort and luxury features as well as the advanced safety equipment.
2018 Audi Q5 Hybrid: Arriva, Price
Audi is still hiding details about the 2018 Audi Q5 Hybrid as well as the information about its arrival. The most probable scenario is that Audi will offer this model in late 2018. However, it could also come as the 2019 model. The price is also the mystery but should enter to the $50k area.
