Audi definitely knows what the word modern means in the auto industry. The all-new 2018 Audi Q5 is a valid argument for that contention. It offers everything you need and expect from the compact crossover SUV but in the way that Audi thinks it should be done. So, what makes new Q5 better.
It is better! Why?
The second-generation of Audi’s popular compact SUV bring improvements on all fronts. The model is more powerful and capable for more refined ride thanks to the new platform and powertrains. The styling hasn’t changed much but it is now in accordance with two other models in Audi’s crossover SUV lineup. There is also more comfortable and better-built interior but also Audi added top-notch tech and safety features.
2018 Audi Q5: Styling, Construction
The new 2018 Audi Q5 uses the updated version of VW’s MLB platform which is also common for many other Audi’s vehicles. Thanks to the new platform, the Q5 is around 198 pounds lighter while also gains much improved structural rigidity which has been provided with the usage of modern materials. The result of these improvements will have a positive effect on model’s handling and performance but on efficiency and safety as well.

In total, it means an 183.6 inches in length and wheelbase expands to 111.6 inches. The benefit from that reflects on improved rear legroom by 0.4 inches and increased cargo space.
When it comes to the styling, the new Q5 hasn’t changed much in that regard actually. The changes are in details. The grille is an interpretation of Audi’s latest design language inspired by the Q7. The grille sits between standard HID headlights while LED units are optional. The model also features strong belt line and swollen fenders which give visual interest to its profile side.
More changes can be detected inside Q5’s cabin. Great build and material quality are something that is expected from Audi but the design is also impressive. Not to mention high comfort and modern tech features.
The base models come with an analog instrument panel but a 12.3-inch Virtual cockpit is, of course, available. There is also the latest MMI infotainment system with touchpad and rotary controls. The center screen measures 8.3 inches and it doesn’t retract when you don’t use it.
Audi again offers this model in three trims. You can opt between the Premium, Premium Plus and top Platinum trims. The base trim includes features like Xenon headlights, leather upholstery, power front seats, satisfying sound system, etc.
With the Premium Plus trim, you also get a moonroof, LED front lights, and more safety features. The top trim adds 20-inch wheels, premium 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and so on.
For the safety, Audi Q5 includes active systems like adaptive cruise control, blind-zone detection, rear automatic braking, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning and more.
2018 Audi Q5: Powertrains
In the engine department, the base 2018 Audi Q5 includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit. It can provide 258 horsepower and torque of 273 pound-feet. Two clutches now route torque front to rear and that brings improvements in efficiency.
This powertrain won’t be available only. Audi will also offer the SQ5 version. It will utilize a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 engine. This engine will beat the current version with 354 hp and torque of 369 lb-ft. It will use an 8-speed automatic transmission and should be capable of hitting 62 mph in 5.2 seconds.
