The Audi Q7 is full-size three-row crossover SUV with the luxury status. However, the luxury doesn’t come at expanse of performance and handling. After being redesigned for the 2017 model year, this model promises to expand powertrain lineup. Reports suggest more conventional engine options and e-tron plug-in hybrid powertrain. The list should also add a high-performance SQ7 version. Audi might also bring upgraded tech and driver aids features.
2018 Audi Q7: Design, Structure
With the arrival of the second-generation, Audi switched to the new architecture. It is VW’s group modular-longitudinal MLB EVO platform. This platform already underpins many big utes and will more but it debuted on the Q7. It features multi-material design that includes more high-tensile steel, aluminum alloy, etc. Audi also uses aluminum for the hood, front fenders, doors and hatch. As the result significant weight reduction of around 500 pounds produces better efficiency while improved structure rigidity boosts the performance.
However, the 2018 Audi Q7 won’t only be sophisticated under the skin yet it will also look attractive. With spot-wagon styling cues and Audi’s modern elements it will be nice to see. Up front, signature Singleframe grille with thick horizontal slats will be dominating figure. Slender headlights accentuated with arrow-shaped DRLs will also be there. Interior of this model will get familiar treatment. It will be very similar to the A8 cabin design. The dash will feature horizontal-oriented and clean design. MMI infotainment replaces physical controls with virtual commands and makes things easier. In front of the driver will also be high-resolution instrument panel which can be configured to display all kind of needed information.
The model will also provide very comfortable front seats and middle-row with enough head and legroom. The third row will offer comfort for smaller adults or kids.
All versions of the new Q7 will come well equipped. Among standard features this model will offer 19-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, roof rails, power-folding and heated mirrors, etc. Standard will also be three-zone climate control, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, leather upholstery, heated and power adjustable front seats, driver’s information display, MMI infotainment touchscreen interface, Smartphone support, ten-speaker sound system, etc.
Higher equipment groups will add navigation, power steering wheel, larger center display, more speakers, more safety equipment, rear seat entertainment and much more.
2018 Audi Q7: Powertrains
Under the hood of the 2018 Audi Q7 will be familiar 3.0 liter supercharged V-6 engine. It produces 333 hp and peak torque of 325 pound-feet. Paired with this engine is an 8-speed automatic transmission system and all-wheel drive.
This configuration will allow up to 7, 700 pound of towing capacity. On the other hand, fuel economy will be around 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
Audi will also offer a turbocharged 2.0 liter inline-four engine and 3.0 liter TDI. Specifications of these options are not available yet.
Plug-in hybrid e-tron model will also be available. It will combine electric motors and depending on the market either petrol or diesel engine. There will also be battery pack and electronically managed dual-clutch transmission.
However, the list doesn’t stop there. Reports also suggest high-performance SQ7 TDI version. This variant should use a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V-8 diesel engine. Bolted to an 8-speed automatic it will be capable to produce 445 hp and impressive torque of 664 lb-ft.
2018 Audi Q7: Release date, Price
2018 Audi Q7 should come in late 2017. Price range will start from around $54, 000. Expect the SQ7 to be priced above $70, 000.
