The next version of BMW’s smallest crossover SUV, the new 2018 BMW X1, will again demonstrate what BMW’s quality means. This subcompact crossover SUV goes against the rivals like the Audi Q3, Buick Encore, Mercedes GLA, and Acura RDX but in many aspects, it performs better than other contenders. The X1 offers the class-leading cargo space and better rear seat comfort than most of the rivals. However, you won’t also find the compact luxury crossover with better handling which comes in hand with quick steering and strong performance.
New for 2018:
Actually, there should not be much new in the next X1. BMW launched redesigned version of this model for the 2016 model year just five years after its debut which is less than the average cycle of 7 years between the redesigns. However, the new X1 will likely get updated tech and safety features. The model might also see some exterior and interior tweaks while the power boost is also possible.
2018 BMW X1: Design
The X1 sits on the Mini’s rear-wheel-drive based architecture and has the classical crossover look. The new 2018 BMW X1 won’t differ much from the current version and changes can only be in details. The model will have BMW’s signature elements up front and will have the nicely sculpted profile. Some tweaks on split kidney grille and headlight’ graphic is possible but BMW hasn’t announced anything and facelifted version should more likely arrive for the 2019 model. However, a new exterior theme with new color options and wheel design could also be offered before the facelift.
Inside the cabin, the X1 will feature high-quality finishes and materials and the design will be elegant. The model will have a modern dash with well-arranged center stack and clear instrument panel.
Supportive front seats will provide good driving position and long-ride comfort. The rear occupants will also have plenty of comforts while the model will also offer above the average cargo capacity.
With high-end comfort and attractive design, the BMW will also be armed with the latest tech and safety technologies. The 2018 version will get the last iteration of the iDrive interface with some upgraded features. Buyers will also get standard power seats, dual zone climate control, fog lights, rain sensing wipers, driver memory setting, etc. They will be able to upgrade with the leather upholstery, trim accents, the M Sport package and additional safety features.
2018 BMW X1: Performance
Powering the new 2018 BMW X1 will likely be an upgraded version of the current engine. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine can produce 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. That is already enough to make this crossover one of the quicker in the class but with some improvements, it should slightly improve its already good score.
BMW will again combine this powerful engine with the 8-speed automatic transmission and buyers will choose between the front- or all-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive also comes with the descent control.
As for the fuel economy, the model should return around 26 mpg.
On the other hand, the buyers will also enjoy in quick and precise steering and will also be impressed with the extraordinary handling.
2018 BMW X1: Arrival, Price
The newest version of the X1 should arrive by the end of this year. We don’t have the precise date or the price as BMW still hides those details. However, the price of the 2018 BMW X1 will surely stay close to the current boundaries.
