Chevrolet redesigned the full-size Tahoe for the 2015 model year and now is time to make things more interesting. The large body-on-frame SUV can haul big families and their cargo easily but with the new trim option and performance package it will add more excitement to the everyday ride. The new 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST is a new version which Chevy presented at 2017 Detroit Auto Show. The new alternative brings a sportier styling which follows modern visual trends but optional performance enchantments are what makes things different.
2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST: Styling
The new 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST features a unique styling but the Rally Street Truck (RST) doesn’t mean any interior change.
From the visual perspective, the model includes blacked-out grille, mirror caps, roof rails, window trim, badges and exhaust tips. On the other hand, it replaces chrome elements with the body color finish. That will be seen around the grille and headlights.
Adding also to model’s sportier appearance are unique 22-inch wheels. These rollers come wrapped in Bridgestone P285/45R22 tires.
On the other hand, the Rally Street Truck trim doesn’t apply for model’s interior which means that it will continue in the same form as the current version.
2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST: What this package means for model’s performance
While styling enhancements will help the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST to look sportier, performance options will make things faster and more powerful.
The new RST trim will offer two interesting options. One is a Borla exhaust performance kit. This exhaust system improves the air flow for 28 percent which translates to a 7-10 horsepower improvement at the rear wheels. Another option is a high-performance braking system. For the improved stopping power, this setup includes Brembo-branded, red-painted, six-piston, aluminum calipers. The system also means the 16.1-inch Durafile rotors. What it translates to is an 82 percent increased brake pad area and 42 percent increased rotor area. It remains to see how this braking system will affect the braking distance as Chevrolet hasn’t revealed that detail.
The 5.3-liter V-8 engine remains the standard engine option on the new Tahoe. This engine can produce 355 hp and torque of 383 lb-ft.
However, if you go with the Performance package more ponies will roar under the hood. The engine is a 6.2-liter V-8 from the Silverado. This power mill can provide 420 hp and torque of 460 lb-ft. It uses direct injection, variable valve timing and active fuel management.
With this engine, Chevy will combine the new 10L80 10-speed automatic transmission. A more powerful combo will push the Tahoe RST to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The towing limit will be 8, 400 pounds.
What will also add to model’s driving if you choose the Performance package is the Magnetic Ride Control suspension system.
