Chevy Trax competes in the fast-growing subcompact segment with the cars like the Mazda CX-3, Jeep Renegade, Honda HR-V, Fiat 500X, etc. This car is a good solution for the buyers which want less expensive and smaller vehicle than the Chevy Equinox which is easy to drive and park in crowded urban areas. The Trax also provides respectable interior space, up to date tech and safety features plus the excellent crash scores. This model is closely related with the Buick Encore and these two share the platform, drivetrains and safety equipment. Chevy refreshed this model for the 2017 model and new version will be the 2018 Chevy Trax.
New for 2018:
The Trax was refreshed for the 2017 model year. Changes included revised front and rear fascia, redesigned dash and the new tech and safety features. These changes will keep the Trax fresh for several years and the 2018 model will not introduce any substantial change.
2018 Chevy Trax: Design
The styling of the 2018 Chevy Trax continues with the updates this model received for the 2017 model year. The design of this model is based on the Chevy’s Sonic platform which also underpins the Buick Encore. However, the Trax features somewhat less expressive styling than its premium sibling.
Up front, the latest iteration of Chevy’s design includes the twin-port grille and headlights like in the last versions of the Chevy Volt, Malibu and Cruze. The model has LED DRLs and LED taillights in the LT and Premier trims. The Trax rides on the 16-inch wheels in the base trim while the 18-inch alloys are available in the higher grades.
Inside the Trax cabin, the designers managed to provide respective passenger space and comfort despite model’s pint-size. The front seats are supportive and front passengers will have enough head and legroom. The rear seats can fold down to provide 48.4 cu ft of the cargo space or there will be enough room for two adults.
On the other hand, all models will get plenty of standard equipment. All Trax models will feature standard MyLink infotainment system with the 7-inch center screen, smartphone compatibility, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, six-speakers, driver information display, etc. The standard will also be automatic headlights, tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, full power accessories, etc.
Upper trims will add upgraded upholstery, power and heated seats, sunroof, and advanced safety systems like the lane departure warning, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, etc.
2018 Chevy Trax: Engine, MPG
Under the hood of the 2018 Chevy Trax will sit a familiar 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine is capable of producing 138 hp and torque of 148 pound-feet. It will be teamed with the six-speed automatic transmission. The Trax will be available with the front-wheel drive and all-wheel as an alternative in all trims.
The fuel economy of the model will be about 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway with the front wheel drive. The all-wheel drive models will return about 24 mpg cities and 30 highways. On the other hand, the 60 mph will be achievable in around 9 seconds.
