Dodge Durango has always been a three-row SUV with a more attitude than most of the family haulers with seven seats. Its styling is aggressive while its V-8 engine provides plenty of power and strong acceleration. What buyers also get if they opt for the all-wheel drive and low range gearing is a strong off-road capability. Aside from that, this model can tow like a champ and also includes surprisingly spacious third row. However, the next version of this model will again redefine what performance SUV means with the new 2018 Dodge Durango powered with the Hemi V-8 engine.
New for 2018:
Dodge hasn’t revealed what changes new Durango will host for the 2018 model year in its conventional version but it isn’t so important when we know that new SRT version with powerful Hemi V-8 engine will be available. So, let’s see what this high-performance version has to offer in more details.
2018 Dodge Durango: Performance
The star of the 2018 Dodge Durango is, of course, a naturally aspirated 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine which can also be found under the hood of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and SRT versions of Dodge Charger and Challenger. With this engine under its hood, the new Durango will challenge its rivals with nearly 500 hp. More precisely, this beast will produce 475 hp at 6,000 rpm while the max torque of 470 lb-ft will be available at 4, 300 rpm.
With this engine, Durango SRT will pair an 8-speed automatic transmission which sends power to all four wheels. The result of this combo is 0-60 mph time of just 4.4 seconds while it will be capable of reaching the quarter mile in 12.9 seconds. On the other hand, this mighty combination will allow the max towing capacity of 8, 600 pounds compared to the current limit of 7, 200 pounds.
With this power hardware, the Durango SRT will also get stiffer suspension and mighty Brembo brakes. Add to that not less than seven driving modes: Track, Snow, Tow, Valet, Eco, Street and Sport.
2018 Dodge Durango: Styling
In hand with the mighty power hardware, the new SRT version of 2018 Dodge Durango will also get more aggressive styling which makes it stands out from others. In order of providing its powerful engine with optimal working conditions, the Durango SRT will feature special cooling measures which will also affect its styling. The hood of this model includes air outlets which give it more muscular look. In addition to that, the SRT version will have a large bumper air intake, unique blacked-out grille and between them extra slit-like air inlet. What also will add to its appearance are black wheels, flared fenders, LED headlights, side skirts and unique bumper with 4-inch exhaust outlets.
Inside the cabin, the SRT will also get special treatment. The dash will include stitched accents and there will also be an 8.4-inch touchscreen with high-version Uconnect features, sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, unique instrument panel, etc. The interior will also feature suede-treated headliner and pillars while there will also be leather seats. As an option, carbon fiber and Laguna leather trim will be available.
With all performance and luxuries at disposal, this special version will also get an array of safety features. It will offer adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic, etc.
