The current third-generation Escape that debuted for the 2013 model has received a significant mid-cycle update for its 2017 version. With the revised front- and rear-end styling the model has been improved inside and also received new safety equipment. But more important upgrades were in the power segment with two new turbocharged EcoBoost engines and slightly improved fuel economy.
With those upgrades, the rival of the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Santa Fe enters to the 2018 model with some changes in the trims organization only at least as far as conventionally powered models are concerned. However, what could also change for the 2018 model is the reintroduction of the hybrid version. Ford discontinued this version with the arrival of the third generation Escape but as per some industry speculations, the Blue Oval Brand might offer 2018 Ford Escape Hybrid version.
2018 Ford Escape Hybrid: Powertrain
The current Escape delivers comfortable drive thanks to the firm handling and fast-responding steering. However, you can also choose between three four-cylinder engines from which two comes with the turbochargers.
The base Escape equipped with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine makes 168 hp and torque of 170 pound-feet. The 1.5-liter turbocharged engine doesn’t accelerate much better than the base engine but provides better fuel efficiency and stronger pull. It makes 179 hp and 177 pound-feet of torque. However, the acceleration becomes better if the 2.0-liter EcoBoost is under the hood. With 245 hp, this engine has plenty of passing power and can hit 60 mph in around 7 seconds.
However, based on some industry speculations, Ford might expand this already impressive powertrain range with the more efficient hybrid version. There hasn’t still been the solid evidence that Ford will actually offer this model but if it comes it should offer similar or probably better fuel economy than the RAV4 Hybrid which is rated at 32 mpg combined. The 2018 Ford Escape Hybrid should combine a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with the electric motor and lithium-ion battery. The total output is rumored to be around 190 hp.
2018 Ford Escape Hybrid: Design
As for the exterior design of the 2018 Ford Escape Hybrid, it should be very similar to the conventional version. Up from some form of brand’s hexagonal grille will be combined with the swept-back headlights and sleeker bumper version. Like the conventional version, the Escape Hybrid will have defined character line and swollen fenders. It will get unique wheels and familiar taillights.
Inside the cabin, the Escape Hybrid will feature very similar design as the conventionally powered models and will offer similar equipment. It will get unique gauges and trim. The latest infotainment system will, of course, be available as well as the safety package with the active driver aids.
2018 Ford Escape Hybrid: Arrival, Price
The 2018 Escape has already been revealed but some reports suggest that 2018 Ford Escape Hybrid will join the lineup sometime in 2018. The price of the model should be around $30, 000.
