2018 Honda CR-V: Changes, Price, Specs

The last Auto Moto Show in Detroit resolved a few mysteries. Now, we know that the fifth-generation Honda CR-V is coming as the 2017 model, not as the 2018 Honda CR-V. The new-generation CR-V will arrive at US dealerships in December but European-spec version will come for the next model year. We can conclude that there were no surprises in the new CR-V and changes are in accordance with what we expected. Honda applied familiar and tested recipe which will keep this model at the top in the compact crossover SUV class. So, don’t expect big changes in 2018 CR-V version.

What could be new for 2018?

For the 2018 model year, Honda could bring more standard equipment and usual technology update. It might also introduce new package options and special edition model.

2018 Honda CR-V: Design, Styling

The new 2018 Honda CR-V will continue unchanged as regard its exterior design and structure. A new generation of this model rides on the 10th generation Civic platform and features a longer wheelbase and improved rear leg room. Its wheelbase growth from 103.1 inches to 104.7 inches while the new length is 180.6 inches compared to previous 179.4 in. This isn’t significant change but this however made this popular crossover even more comfortable. However, the latest CR-V is also more that inch wider which helps it to accommodate three adults in rear comfortably.

As for the styling, the new-generation is somewhat more dramatic than in the previous version. Honda has added some sharper lines and angles which give a more aggressive vibe to this vehicle. There is also standard LED daytime running lights which also give it more modern look.

From the profile perspective, it is similar to the last Pilot while its rear features a new identity. The taillights take high position and tailgate features more sculpted sheet-metal.

Interior:

Inside, CR-V will feature conventional but elegant design. The dash looks elegant and also includes well-arranged controls. The center screen actually manages most of the command actions which reduce number of physical controls. The comfort of passengers is also on the high-level thanks to well-designed front and rear seats and higher trims will also bring next level of accommodation.

Trims, Features:

The Honda CRV will be well-equipped from its base LX model. Other trims including EX, EX-L, and top Touring will incrementally add more tech and convenience features.

The base models will come with 17-inch alloys, LED DRLs, power locks and windows, automatic temperature control, four speakers, keyless entry, etc.

The next trim will bring 18-inch wheels, heated seats and mirrors, automatic headlights, remote start, a 12-way power adjustable driver’s seat, a moonroof, etc. On the tech front, it will advance with a 7-inch screen infotainment system and Honda Sensing package will also be available. It will include lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and emergency braking.

Two top trims will upgrade with leather upholstery, a power tailgate, upgraded sound system, unique styling and interior inserts, etc.

Powering the 2018 Honda CR-V will be two engines. The base model will get power from the 2.4-liter inline-four engine. It will produce 184 hp and torque of 180 pound-feet.

Available will also be a turbocharged inline-4 form the Civic sedan. This engine has the 1.5-liter capacity and is good for 190 hp and torque of 170 pound-feet.

The continuously variable transmission system will route power to either front wheels or all four.

As for the fuel economy, the base engine will return around 26 mpg in city and 32 highways with front-wheel drive. With power on all wheels, the score will be 1 mpg less in each driving mode. On the other hand, the turbocharged powertrain will earn 28 mpg in city and 34 mpg in freeway ride. With all-wheel drive, it will also be 1 mpg less frugal.

The price of the 2018 Honda CR-V won’t move far from the current range. It will start from around $24, 000 and will reach $34, 000 for the top version. Expect this model in late 2017.
