The Infiniti QX80 is the full-size SUV, the largest vehicle with this logo which comes with the powerful V-8 engine, a lot of attitude in its styling and with the truly rich cabin. It entered to the current generation for the 2011 model year while changed the QX56 name to the QX80 in 2014 but without of major changes in its design and structure. Although Infiniti has made some upgrades over these years we hoped that 2018 Infiniti QX80 could come as the new generation model.
Since this brand presented the QX80 Monograph concept, something it calls the exterior design study, it seems that new-generation model will arrive in a year or two. Before it would be released, the upcoming model will return in the familiar form and with the familiar running gear.
2018 Infiniti QX80: Design
If the design study that Infiniti presented at the 2017 New York Auto Show would be the direction that new-generation QX80 would follow we don’t see it would look much different from the current version. The Monograph concept model has a chunkier boxy body with modernized styling elements. That actually is not the large departure from the actual design language. If Infiniti would go to production with this design study than we could expect slightly reshaped grille, modernized lighting clusters and slightly different body sculpting on the new-gen. What should also be expected, the redesigned QX80 would be based on the upgraded body-on-frame platform which underpins the current version.
As for the 2018 Infiniti QX80, expect it to continue with the same styling as the current version. There is the possibility of new color options and new styling package.
Inside the cabin, be ready for the luxury experience but in the same form as in the current model. The design of the front seats will guarantee a long ride comfort. The middle-row passengers will also enjoy in ample head and leg room. The third row will provide comfort for small adults.
The dash will feature attractive wood trim around the center stack and we expect upgraded touchscreen infotainment system. The model will, on another hand, be available in the base and Limited trims with several additional packages between them.
The base model will have much more than you need. However, the additional packages will raise it on the even greater level. Some of the base features are tri-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, power and heated front seats, driver memory setting, power and heated steering wheel, 20-inch wheels, automatic LED headlights and much more. The upgrades will include upgraded upholstery, mentioned wood trim, ventilated front seats, premium Bose sound system, in-car WiFI, etc.
Available will also be an advanced safety equipment. The model will include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and intervention, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, surround view cameras, etc.
2018 Infiniti QX80: Powertrain
Nissan has installed the current 5.6-liter V-8 in the Titan XD truck. So we won’t be surprised if the new-generation QX80 would be moved with the V-8 engine. In meantime, the 2018 Infiniti QX80 will exploit this engine which can produce 400 hp and torque of 413 pound-feet. The engine will work in the combination with the 7-speed automatic transmission and standard rear-wheel drive. The power on all four wheel with low-range gearing will be an option.
With this powertrain, the QX80 won’t disappoint you in any situation. It will also allow up to 8, 500 pounds of towing capacity. It will also accelerate well with the 60-mph score bellow 7 seconds. On the other hand, the average fuel economy should be around 16 mpg.
2018 Infiniti QX80: Arrival, Price
The new 2018 Infiniti QX80 will hit the roads late this year or in the first months next year. The price range will have the starting point from around $64, 000.
