After the huge success of its first crossover SUV, the F-Pace and introduction of the smaller E-Pace, Jaguar is finalizing its new project the 2018 Jaguar I-Pace. The I-Pace will be Jag’s first pure electric car and designed to go against the Tesla Model X. Jaguar was spotted several times while testing the all-electric I-Pace and it seems that production version won’t stray far from the I-pace Concept which made premiere at the last year LA Motor Show.
That doesn’t come as the surprise as Jag’s design chief said at Concept’s premiere that this model is about 80 percent of the production-ready car. Judging by the spy photos the production version will have slightly toned-down styling and interior compared to the concept version and the power and performance should also remain close to concept’s specs.
2018 Jaguar I-Pace: Design
When it comes to the visual aspect of the 2018 Jaguar I-Pace, it is obvious from the spy photos that the bodywork will be very similar to the concept version. Like the Concept car, the production model will combine SUV’s and hatchback’s traits with Jag’s familiar styling elements.
The model’s front will include familiar grille design which in the case of this car is there just for the visual purposes. Flanking the grille will be the pair of slim headlights and the front with also feature Jaguar’s familiar curves and creases.
The aluminum-based, pure-electric I-Pace will also have an athletic profile with raised belt line and pronounced fender flares. The rear will have the steeply raked windscreen and slim taillights. Sharp lines and bumpers’ design will also speak about Jag’s performance DNA.
The dimensions of the I-Pace model will stay close the concept version and while each concepts’ dimension is smaller than on the F-Pace model it has slightly longer wheelbase which will maximize interior comfort. Jaguar will enhance passengers’ comfort with high-quality materials also will also offer plenty of other luxury features.
Design wise, the interior will inherit a lot from the concept car but with some elements more conventionally styled. The setup of the screens will be similar as on the Range Rover Velar. The model will get similar steering wheel as the concept while the air vents will get a more conventional style. The level of the equipment will be similar as in Jag’s conventional SUVs.
2018 Jaguar I-Pace: Powertrain
Jaguar hasn’t revealed details about the mechanics of the 2018 Jaguar I-Pace but that aspect should also stay close to the specification of the Concept model. The model will include the pair of synchronous electric motors mounted on each axle providing the all-wheel drive with rapid response and torque distribution. Each motor should contribute with 197 hp which in total should be about 400 hp and 516 pound-feet of the torque like on the I-Pace Concept. With those specs, the pure-electric I-Pace promises 60 mph in time around 4 seconds.
On the other hand, the model should employ in-house built lithium ion battery. With the capacity of 90 kWh, this battery should provide the range of around 220 miles with zero emissions. Refiling the battery to the 80 percent level should take about 90 minutes.
2018 Jaguar I-Pace: Arrival, Price
The new 2018 Jaguar I-Pace will likely debut before the end of this year while will go on sale in 2018. Jaguar wasn’t specific about the price but the model should be about 10-15 percent more expensive than F-Pace equivalent.
