The all-new Jeep Compass is back in the game in the extremely popular and important compact crossover segment. The second-generation entry model, 2018 Jeep Compass, debuted at the last LA Auto Show. Jeep presented this model in a new light and with new hardware and tech.
The model will be available globally in more than 100 markets and will offer a total of 17 powertrain options depending on the selected market. Jeep will also launch this model in four variants Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk. It will be produced in factories in Brazil, Mexico, China and India.
Jeep promises that new Compass will be the most capable vehicle in the class bringing also top-notch teach and comfort as well as new aesthetics.
2018 Jeep Compass: Structure, Styling
The new 2018 Jeep Compass was designed and engineered in the US. It sits on the upgraded “small-wide” unibody platform which boasts high flexibility and improved rigidity. Its structure consists of 65 percent high-tensile steel. The subframe and upper structure are formed as the single unit and for increased stiffness the adhesives have been used.
As for the aesthetics, the Compass evolved to the more attractive vehicle. It blends cues from both the Cherokee and Renegade. The front fascia borrows Cherokee’s design. There is, of course, seven-piece grille and attractive headlights. The model features Cherokee-like trapezoidal fenders and pronounced character line.
On the other hand, different versions will bring unique exterior trim. Off-road ready Trailhawk will get raised suspension, all-terrain tires, red recovery hooks, thick underbody protection, anti-glare hood decal, etc. This model will also boast improved approach and departure angles which measure 30 and 34 degrees respectively.
Cabin design, Features:
Interior design is attractive and well-organized. Jeep has also focused on the roominess and technology.
The dash features clean look. Instrument panel includes twin-barrel gauges and middle display either 3.5- or 7-inches unit depending on the trim level. The center screen sits between a pair of air vents and bellow are HVAC controls.
The model gets FCA’s latest Uconnect infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play available on all versions. The screen dimensions depend on the trim level and standard is a 5-inch unit, the mid-level 7-inch or 8.4-inches screen.
2018 Jeep Compass: Performance
As we said earlier, the 2018 Jeep Compass will be available in a total of 17 powertrains. There belong five engine options including two diesel and three petrol units depending on the market.
For the US market, the Compass will get a 2.4-liter inline-four engine. It will be good for 180 horsepower and torque of 175 pound-feet.
The list of transmissions will count to three. Front-wheel drive models will come with either a six-speed manual or matching gear automatic. A six-speed automatic and nine-speed automatic will be available with the all-wheel drive.
Other markets will get a 1.4-liter turbocharged and 2.0-liter petrol engines. The diesel line will include a 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engines.
The Compass will actually be available with two four-wheel drive systems. There are standard active four-wheel drive and Jeep’s Active Drive Low setup with a 20:1 crawl ratio.
The model will also feature Jeep Select-system with different drive modes. It will also have a MacPherson front strut setup and rear Chapman suspension.
2018 Jeep Compass: Availability, Price
The 2018 Jeep Compass will arrive in the first quarter of 2017. The price is yet to be revealed but expect it to start from around $21, 000.
