The Lexus GX460 is one of few truly off-road capable three-row mid-size SUVs with the body-on-frame based structure and standard V-8 engine which can drive your family on all terrains plus be comfortable on the road and deliver high-end luxury and tech features. However, this capable and well-equipped vehicle was the all-new for 2010 model year and with the 2014 model year subtle styling refresh, it is expected for the thorough redesign in coming years. The next version of this model will come as the 2018 Lexus GX460 but will it upgrade to the current version?
What could be new for 2018?
While the Lexus presented the new LS sedan and refreshed NX compact crossover, the destiny of the 2018 GX460 is still the mystery. However, if we want to believe other sources this model will again be put on hold when it comes to the serious changes. Lexus will likely offer some tech and trim enhancements while the decision about the future of this model and the possible redesign should be under consideration in the upcoming model years.
2018 Lexus GX460: Design
The newest models Lexus presented are the proof that this brand won’t radically change its design approach in the near future. This means that polarizing spindle grille will remain the dominating element of brand’s styling. However, models will get the somewhat more sculpted body and its elements.
However, as the things now stand, the 2018 Lexus GX460 won’t change much in any aspect and that also applies to model’s styling. So, it will continue in upright form with the pronounced lines and gaping grille upfront. Lexus might modernize lighting clusters like on the newest models adding also new color options and some details but we don’t expect radical changes.
Inside this model will be a nice place to be but don’t expect it to impress like some of its rivals. Nevertheless, it can be more luxurious and equipped than you will ever need. It will have comfortable front seats and satisfying middle comfort while the rearmost seats will accommodate kids. The higher trim levels will bring authentic trim accents and soft leather while the newest infotainment features will keep you connected.
The new version could grow the display from the current 8-inch and update infotainment features alongside with the safety rig. On the other hand, the base models will include 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, power steering wheel and front seats, infotainment interface, etc.
The Luxury version will add to that with the adaptive suspension, upgraded leather padding, heated steering wheel, wood trim and more safety equipment.
The new safety features could be added to the current level of equipment which includes lane departure warning, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, etc. Most of these safety features should be standard.
2018 Lexus GX460: Performance
Lexus has replaced its venerable V-8 engine with the twin-turbo V-6 engine in its new sedan model but the new 2018 Lexus GX460 will likely stick with the current engine. A 4.6-liter V-8 can produce 301 hp and reaches torque of 329 lb-ft at 3, 500 rpm. Combined with this engine is a six-speed transmission system. The standard feature is also a full-time four-wheel drive system. It comes with a dual-range transfer case.
This power hardware can push this vehicle to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. It can tow up to 6, 500 pounds. As for the fuel economy, expect 15 mpg city and 18 mpg highway.
2018 Lexus GX460: Arrival, Price
If the reports about the new 2018 Lexus GX460 turn out to be true the price of this model won’t change much either. It will start from around $52, 000. The arrival should be late this year.
