Lexus has refreshed the Toyota RAV4-based NX and this model had the premiere at the Shanghai Auto Show. With some enhancements in almost all aspects, this model should remain fresh and competitive in the crowded arena of compact luxury-oriented crossovers. The marque’s third best-selling model after the RX and ES sedan doesn’t bring improvements in the power segment but promises better handling and riding quality. The changes on model’s appearance are also notable but new touches will also be seen inside the cabin. In the addition to that, the 2018 Lexus NX is also smarter and safer thanks to the revised tech and safety features.
2018 Lexus NX: Refreshed Styling
The changes made to model’s appearance are noticeable but not substantial. The most of the refresh is located on model’s front fascia. Lexus hasn’t replaced its polarizing but signature grille yet its upper area and fenders feature more fluid design. The trims with the mesh grille also feature slightly different mesh pattern. Following the changes to the grille and front fascia reshaping is also the new graphic of the headlamps with three projectors distributed like on the LC sport coupe. Lexus also made the slits in the lower front fascia broader and slightly changed lower bumper edge and the position of the fog lights.
Around the back, you will spot redesigned bumper and elongated taillights. Broader are also the exhaust outlets. The new 2018 Lexus NX will also feature the new 18-inch wheels and the kick sensor beneath the bumper for opening and close the rear hatch.
Changes in the Cabin and Equipment:
Inside, the buyers will spot the satin gray finish on the areas like the door handles, shift knob, and switches. The new NX also brings simpler HVAC controls, larger center console touchpad, and larger wireless charging tray. However, the infotainment system also comes with the screen which has grown to 10.3 inches.
Another detail is the updated design of the analog clock. On the other hand, the black/white seats and “Naguri” aluminum accents will be the F Sport trim specific.
What is also important, the newest NX comes with the standard Lexus Safety System +. This safety suite includes lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control, Pre-Collision system and automatic high beams.
2018 Lexus NX: Powertrains
For providing the better handling and ride quality, the new 2018 Lexus NX benefits from some improvements in the suspension system. Thanks to the new shock absorbers, improved bushings, springs and stabilizer bars, the model should provide the better cornering and response. To that also add the new Adaptive Variable Suspension similar as the one in the LC500 coupe.
The power, on the other hand, will provide the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The six-speed automatic transmission will send power to the front wheels by default. An all-wheel drive is an option. However, Lexus will call this model the NX 300 instead of so far NX 200t.
An alternative will remain the NX 300h hybrid version. By combining the 2.5-liter inline-4 engine and electric motors which get the power from the nickel-metal battery, this model will offer the total output of 194 hp. The fuel economy will pretend to the class top with 31 mpg combined. The base model should stay around 25 mpg combined.
2018 Lexus NX: Arrival, Price
The refreshed 2018 Lexus NX should land in the showrooms this fall. No price confirmation either so far, but the slight increase over the current range is expected.
