The Porsche Cayenne redefines boundaries in SUV segment. It puts strong focus on performance and delivers stunning capability on road and impressive handling. For that purposes strong list of turbocharged engines and standard all-wheel drive comes joined with plug-in hybrid powertrain. However, this model doesn’t ignore other SUV aspects. It offers attractive styling and exquisite interior. Available are also long list of options and features which suit all demands. But, 2018 Porsche Cayenne comes as all-new model and brand puts things on the next level once again.
The 2018 year model brings the third generation of the Porsche’s popular SUV. It improves on all terrains. The platform is new, styling revised, interior upgraded, performance improved and tech and safety segment as well.
2018 Porsche Cayenne: Platform, Design
One of the most important aspects of the new-generation 2018 Porsche Cayenne is an introduction of the new platform. Underpinning this SUV is VW’s group MLB architecture. Models like 2017 Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayaga already benefits from it. However, it will also be the base of the next VW Touareg and Lamborghini Urus.
This modern highly modular platform combines new modern lightweight materials. Mix of the high-tensile steel, aluminum and at some extent carbon fiber reduces the weight but also improves rigidity. For the particular application, this platform should bring weight loss of around 220 pounds but also improvements in fuel efficiency and performance.
However, the changes don’t stop with the new platform. The new Cayenne sports sleeker styling and flatter roof as well. It actually combines some elements from the Panamera Sport Turismo concept and new Macan. Despite, the revised styling is rather evolution than revolution form the current version.
It will have clamshell like hood, slightly reshaped grille and front bumper and restyled headlights. Going from the front end toward rear, changes are also subtitle. Slightly changed profile lines don’t make big difference. The rear side also changes a bit and it gets new wrap-around taillights.
Cleaner interior, modernized features:
Compared to subtly changed exterior, interior goes step ahead. Interior design will be much cleaner and modernized. It features close resemblance to Panamera’s design. The model will get modernized dash and many controls will be replaced with digital ones. Larger center screen will take care for that job and model will get new instrument cluster.
On the other hand upgraded materials and new themes will also provide positive impression. But model will also evolve in tech and safety segment. It will benefit from upgraded infotainment system. To that we should add more advanced driver aids including semi-autonomous features.
2018 Porsche Cayenne: Performance
Engine lineup of the new generation 2018 Porsche Cayenne should mirror the current lineup. There will be turbocharged V-6 and V-8 engines including plug-in hybrid as well.
Final word will come from the company but we expect that model will share some engines with Panamera model. It has a turbocharged 2.9 liter V-6. This engine produces 440 hp and torque of 405 pound-feet. There is also turbocharged 4.0 liter V-8 engine. It adds significant power boost to 550 hp while torque reaches 567 lb-ft.
The plug-in hybrid will combine supercharged 3.0 liter V-6 engine and electric motor like the current version. On the other hand diesel powertrain will be discontinued in the US.
All Cayennes will use an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
2018 Porsche Cayenne: Arrival, Price
The 2018 Porsche Cayenne will come sometime next year. However, we bet we wouldn’t wait long for its debut. About price we can only speculate that it would start from around $60, 000.
