The Kodiaq is Skoda’s first and successful foray into the world of the mid-size SUVs. The model debuted at the 2016 Paris Motor Show while the Vision C Concept previewed the production version at 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The Kodiaq shares the version of the underpinning found under the VW Tiguan and Seat Ateca. The model is available in five- and seven-seat configurations and with front- and four-wheel drive. The petrol and diesel engines power this modern SUV and it delivers a comfortable ride and precise handling. The practical cabin is also the value of this model but this model is also more reasonably priced seven-seat SUV.
The 2018 Skoda Kodiaq expands the lineup with two new versions. The Scout and Sportline versions debuted at the last Geneva Auto Show. Skoda also adds a new diesel option.
2018 Skoda Kodiaq: Design
The 2018 Skoda Kodiaq is based on VW MQB platform which also makes the foundation of the new Tiguan version. However, Skoda is bigger than the Tiguan and has 184.9 inches in length, 74.1 inches in width and height is 66.0 inches. The model rides on the 109.9-inch wheelbase.
Visually, the model obviously blends the styling cues from VW’s new SUVs with Skoda’s signature elements. The brand’s grille dominates on the front section combined with modern headlights and sleek front bumper. The hood has middle bulge matching the grille design and pronounced beltline improves the profile view.
On the other hand, the Scout version has off-road inspired styling and equipment. The version has improved ground clearance and front and rear underbody protection. The unique bumper trim, silver mirror caps and badging also makes the difference. The model also comes with standard AWD.
The Sportline as the name suggests adds sportier flourishes and some interior upgrades. The exterior features some parts finished in black and unique big alloys. Inside, the Sportline has the leather treated steering wheel, sports seats and aluminum pedals.
The interior of the Kodiaq is practical and nicely styled. The five and seven-passenger configurations are available. The middle-row is comfortable and flexible while the third row is adequate for small kids.
The model has modern dash which design is similar to VW models. The Kodiaq has modern infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto support. The new model will also include 9.2-inch display unit with the gesture control capability. Skoda also offers leather/suede seats, ambient lighting, electric tailgate, dual-zone climate control, etc.
Upgrades include adjustable dampers, hands-free tailgate, three-zone climate control, full leather seating, power and heated front row, premium sound system, etc.
Available are also advanced safety systems like the adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, surround view system, blind-spot monitoring, lane assist, etc.
