The Kluger is Toyota’s comfortable and spacious mid-size SUV available globally but marketed as the Highlander in other markets. Toyota sold this Camry-based SUV as the Kluger in Japan and Australia. The current model is the third-generation version but refreshed for the year 2017. The refreshed model debuted at the 2016 New York Auto Show and went on sale in late 2016. The updated Kluger arrived in Australia in February. The updated version boats sharper exterior styling, improved interior and stronger V-6 engine. The newest one offers enhanced features but also cost slightly more.
The new version of this model, the 2018 Toyota Kluger will enter the first year after the mid-cycle update unchanged as it is the case with the Highlander in other markets.
2018 Toyota Kluger: Design
The styling of the 2018 Toyota Kluger continues unchanged from the refreshed 2017 version. Thanks to the mid-cycle update, the Kluger is a modern-looking family hauler. The model bears dual-grille design combined with modern headlights with integrated DRLs. The grille finish changes across the range and buyers can pick between the silver finish, shiny chromed version or blacked-out grille. Available are also attractive 18-inch wheel designs in form of five- or multi-spoke rims or 19-inch multi-spoke design.
The interior of the Kluger will continue to offer room for seven passengers and their cargo. The last year update brought improved, soft touch materials, upgraded tech and safety features. The model has supportive seats and the middle row folds down easily to open access to the third row where children or small adults will feel comfortable.
On the tech front, the base models will have a smaller touchscreen interface while all other will get a high-resolution 8-inch display, satellite navigation, DAB+ radio, power tailgate, etc. The higher trims will also bring upgraded upholstery, automatic climate, power front seats, ventilated front seats, unique accents, more speakers, etc.
The safety will also meet the latest standards. The model will offer systems like the adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam, blind spot monitoring system etc.
2018 Toyota Kluger: Performance
Under the hood of the 2018 Toyota Kluger will be last year updated 3.5-liter V-6 engine. Updated with the direct injection this engine is the only option for the Kluger and comes with the eight-speed automatic transmission. The power this engine delivers is 218 kW (295 hp) and torque limit is 350 Nm (263 lb-ft). The engine has 11.8:1 compression ratio and fuel economy is around 9 liters per 100 km.
On the other hand, the Highlander offers two additional power options. The base model is available with the 2.7-liter inline-4 engine. It delivers 185 hp and torque of 184 pound-feet. The Highlander Hybrid uses the V-6 engine combined with two electric motors and 45 kW battery for the total output of 306 hp.

The 2018 Toyota Kluger is expected in early 2018. The price won’t change much from the previous version.
