In the compact crossover SUV class where you can find names like the Ford Escape, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester and Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 is also the vehicle that deserves your attention. This model is not the best performer in any particular aspect in its class but it is the well-rounded vehicle which will satisfy all your requirements. The RAV4 rides smoothly, has quiet nature, offers generous cargo capacity and also comes with the host of standard safety features. The next version of this model will be 2018 Toyota RAV4 but you should not expect any significant change.
New for 2018:
The new RAV4 won’t actually be so new as it will continue to the new model year largely unchanged. New color options and more standard equipment are what we will likely get for the 2018 model year. On the other hand, the new architecture, revised look, improved powertrains and more should arrive in 2018 as the 2019 model.
2018 Toyota RAV4: Design, Interior
The last redesign of the RAV4 was in 2013 while was updated for the 2016 model year. The last update brought the look which debuted on the 2016 Prius Hatchback and with that visual approach this model shares the styling elements with Toyota’s latest vehicles. In that context, the new 2018 Toyota RAV4 won’t differ from the current version and for revised look we will have to wait for the 2019 model year.
Inside, the RAV4 version will be comfortable and spacious. Toyota made materials better for last model year, therefore we don’t expect improvements in that aspect. The RAV4 also will also provide supportive front seats and satisfying rear comfort. You can also count on the generous cargo space which maximum is 73.4 cubic feet when rear seats are folded.
Expect to see the new RAV4 with the same trim options and with no significant additions in them. Toyota made the Toyota Safety System standard for the 2017 model and you can count on the forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and more in all versions. All models will also include Toyota’s Entune infotainment system, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, full power accessories, etc.
The upper trims will add automatic climate control, upgraded upholstery, unique exterior and interior inserts, heated seats, premium sound system, and more.
2018 Toyota RAV4: Powertrains
Powering the new 2018 Toyota RAV4 will likely be the same pair of powertrains.
The base motivator will remain the 2.5-liter inline-4 engine. It can produce 176 hp and torque of 173 lb-ft. It works in pair with the six-speed automatic transmission. Two-wheel drive and all-wheel will be available. With power on the front wheels this engine will earn 26 mpg combined while 1 mpg less will be achievable with the four-wheel drive.
The RAV4 Hybrid will provide more power and better mileage. It will again use the same powertrain which combines the petrol engine and two-motor Hybrid Synergy system. The four-cylinder engine provides 154 hp while the total output is 194 hp.
The Hybrid version has the standard all-wheel system and power for the rear wheels comes from the electric motor.
The fuel economy of the RAV4 hybrid will be 34 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.
2018 Toyota RAV4: Arrival, Price
We expect to see the new 2018 Toyota RAV4 in the fall of 2017. Some increase in price is possible but it will stay close to the current boundaries.
