Toyota Sequoia is brand’s largest SUV with the traditional look and rugged body-on-frame design. The model sits above the mid-size Highlander in brand’s lineup. This large SUV thanks to its truck roots can tow like the champ and can also haul up to eight passengers. The V-8 provides plenty of power for every task but Sequoia also has comfortable nature while also providing respectable off-road capacity. However, the Sequoia was new for the 2008 model year and it is currently the oldest among rivals. That is the reason why Toyota will offer the refreshed version as the 2018 Toyota Sequoia.
New for 2018:
At the last Chicago Auto Show, Toyota presented the facelifted Sequoia. The Tundra-based SUV brings some welcomed upgrades to the entire model lineup. All models feature some styling refreshments while Toyota has also bolstered model’s safety equipment. Another notable upgrade is an addition of the new TRD Sport trim.
2018 Toyota Sequoia: Styling changes
Structurally, the 2018 Toyota Sequoia remains the Tundra truck based SUV and it also remains in the same proportions. However, across the entire Sequoia lineup, some visual refreshments are present. All Sequoias now feature LED headlights combined with DRL’s and fog lamps. The truck-like grille also adds unique accents and inserts. The new version will also be available with several new color options. Added are Shoreline Blue Pearl, Midnight Black Metallic, and Toasted Walnut Pearl.
On the other hand, the new TRD Sport trim features unique front fascia and grille. This version also includes the unique 20-inch alloy wheels, metallic black mirror caps, unique taillight graphic, and TRD sport badges.
Inside the cabin, the new Sequoia has revamped console and instrument panel. There is also a new Multi-information display.
The new TRD Sport trim which slots between the SR5 and Limited also has its unique interior features. There are TRD Sport sill protectors, floor mats and shift knob. This version also comes with the leather upholstery, power front seats, Entune system and navigation, etc.
What is also important for the new Sequoia is the availability of the more advanced Toyota Safety system. It comes with the active technologies like the lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, automatic high beams, etc.
2018 Toyota Sequoia: Performance
Under the hood of the new 2018 Toyota Sequoia will again be the familiar V-8 engine. This powerplant with the capacity of 5.7-liter can produce 381 hp and torque of 401 lb-ft. The only available transmission is a six-speed automatic. The rear-wheel drive is also standard while can be replaced with the four-wheel drive.
The four-wheel drive comes with the two-speed transfer case and a Torsen limited-slip differential. Models with the 4WD also feature A-TRAC traction control system.
The Sequoia can tow up to 7, 400 pounds while the fuel economy should stay around 13 mpg city and 17 mpg highway.
Important to mentions is also that TRD Sport version has specific Blistein shocks and new TRD front and rear anti-roll bars.
2018 Toyota Sequoia: Arrival, Price
The new 2018 Toyota Sequoia will arrive in the showrooms this September. The pricing hasn’t been revealed but expect the prices to stay close to the current boundaries.
