2018 VW Tiguan Hybrid: Rumor or Reality?

After introduction of the bulky Atlas model for the shoppers in the US, Volkswagen continues the three-row of seat trend for this market with the new-generation Volkswagen Tiguan. This model debuted at the last Detroit show significantly larger than outgoing version and with brand’s new styling. Germans added more tech and safety features and more sophistication to this model with the new lightweight platform.  The next step could be the 2018 VW Tiguan Hybrid version but we still don’t have the official confirmation for that.

Tiguan Hybrid?

VW presented the new-gen three-row Tiguan with the one engine option for the US market. The engine is updated version of brand’s familiar TSI engine which powers the current version and can also be found in the Euro-spec version as well. However, the standard wheelbase version for the European market is available with the total of eight engines including the TSI and TDI units. VW hasn’t said would the standard wheelbase version be sold in the US alongside with the three-row model. It hasn’t also commented on the rumors about the Hybrid powertrain. Based on our sources, the Tiguan Hybrid is being considered and it could arrive as the 2018 model but more likely for the 2019 version.

2018 VW Tiguan Hybrid: Design

The new 2018 VW Tiguan Hybrid, when it arrives, will be designed on the same MQB platform which is also the foundation of the larger Atlas. However, compared to the previous generation, the long-wheelbase model has grown significantly in order to adopt the third row of seats. It extends to 185.2 inches from the bumper to bumper and rides on the 109.9-inch wheelbase. It is 10.7 additional inches in model’s length and 4.4 inches more in wheelbase compared to the current generation.

With the additional inches the new Tiguan will offer up to 44 percent increased cargo capacity. It will also benefit from the approach angle which now measures 26 degrees.

From the visual point, the Tiguan adopts the latest design language seen on the new Atlas model. It looks sleek and a bit conservative but elegant and attractive as well.  The skinny version of the grille comes with the new LED accentuated headlights and rear side features nice-graphic taillights. The model also has defined character line and nice five-spoke wheels.
