The new generation of the already legendary VW Tiguan in the Europe-specs version was presented almost a year ago. The new model is bigger in all directions. It rides on the new platform and has better designed exterior and interior. There are also new underpinning, powertrains and technology. That was for the global markets. However, for the US market, this compact crossover comes as the 2018 VW Tiguan. This is because of the two main reasons. The VW is finishing development of the long-wheelbase model which will be available in the US and markets like Europe and China. The US-specs Tiguan will be produced in the Puebla, Mexico, and this plant is expanding its capacities for the new model.

2018 VW Tiguan: New Design, Changes

The new 2018 VW Tiguan, like the most of brand’s high-level production vehicles, will be based on the MQB platform. This highly modular architecture reduces the production cost while is also lighter and can adopt more powertrains. It is also safer and more fuel efficient.

On the other hand, the Tiguan which will come to the US will be longer and will ride on the stretched wheelbase compared to the global version. This version adds almost five inches to the 177-inch Euro-Spec model length. The wheelbase is also about 3.5 inches longer than the 105.6-inch regular European version. All that will open room for the third row of seats expanding seating capacity to seven.

From the visual point of view, the new Tiguan will get more muscular lines and modernized exterior elements. Front fascia will look the same as on the already seen Euro model and the same is with its rear end. However, the longer body for the US market comes with bigger rear doors and slightly different C-pillar.

On the inside, the model will, of course, be more spacious and will have practical boot area. Improved will also be material and build quality. Nicer dash will include new modern center stack and digital instrument cluster.
