The popular BMW X3 sells as the third-generation version for the 2018 model year. The redesigned mid-size luxury SUV brought the changes which BMW repeats on the other new models. The styling isn’t much different and the wheelbase is stretched. Every new-generation BMW is also techier than before. The X3 is also powered by the turbo-4 engine and the M40i boosts the performance with the turbo-6 engine, sports suspension and exhaust, launch control, etc.
However, for the 2019 model year, BMW is readying the 2019 BMW X3 M version which was spotted while testing. BMW still hides details about the new performance version but we know what to expect. The styling will get performance enhancements and the interior will also use the racy theme. The most important is the running rig and there we expect the more powerful turbo-6 engine. BMW is reported to give the Competition Package to the X3 M version as well.
2019 BMW X3 M: Styling
The changes on the styling of the third-generation X3 were evolutionary. The model however switched to the new lightweight platform and gained in length and width.
As for the 2019 BMW X3 M version, it will bring more aggressive stance with design elements familiar from other M models.
The front will look sportier thanks to the larger air intakes and fins in the front bumper. The M model will also sit lower to the ground and will get unique 20-inch wheels.
A more fun-to-drive X3 will also get a more sculpted rear bumper and the M badge on the rear side. The quad exhaust setup will also have the visual effect.
We haven’t peeked inside the cabin of the M version. However, the X3 M would get the sporty seats combined with racy trim and textures. There will also be the M shifter with familiar buttons from the M5.
The model will also get the sportier steering wheel and the infotainment and tech features will mimic those on the conventional versions.
2019 BMW X3 M: Performance
What really matters is the running rig and despite BMW hasn’t revealed the details, the latest reports give us some insight into what we should expect.
In that context, the 2019 BMW X3 M will likely employ the turbo inline-6 engines, dubbed S58. The version of this engine makes 425 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque in the current BMW. For the X3 M version, we should expect closer to 450 ponies. However, the reports also suggest the Competition package which should add around 25 horses.
The X3 M will further improve the performance over the conventional versions with the larger brakes, lower and sport-tuned suspension, stiffer dampers and springs, etc.
The transmission system should be the 8-gear automatic and combined with the four-wheel drive.
2019 BMW X3 M: Arrival, Price
The 2019 BMW X3 M could debut this September. The price and more details should surface closer to the debut. The model will likely cost above $65k.
