BMW X4 is the newest addition of the crossover SUV with the coupe-like profile to BMW’s lineup. Like the larger coupe-like X6 which derives from the X5, the X4 is the derivative of the X3 with which it shares powertrains and dimensions. This uniquely styled SUV from the BMW family debuted in 2014 and what is interesting, it seems that German giant already has the second generation of this model in the perspective. The new gen-version should debut around the mid of the next year which means that buyers would get the new iteration of this model like the 2019 BMW X4. It means that BMW would interrupt the usual product cycle of 7 years.
What will change?
The next-gen X4 will be engineered on the new lightweight platform and will get the range of more powerful and efficient engines. The styling will evolve from the current form while the expanded cabin will feature the high-tech and safety features. The high-performance M version should also be available.
2019 BMW X4: Platform, Design
Like its derivative, the X3 which will arrive late this year, the 2019 BMW X4 will be built on the rear-wheel-drive scalable architecture. The lightweight design of this platform will help the new X4 to be around 220 lbs lighter than the current generation providing also the better fuel efficiency and performance.
Styling wise, the X4 won’t feature a revolutionary change. The model’s design will be an evolution of the current design theme with styling cues borrowed from the next X2. It will feature tweaked split kidney grille and headlights and will also get the new LED taillights. The profile will emphasize the strong character line which extends from the front fenders over the door handles to the taillights and low roofline will also make it more dramatic. The M version will feature more aggressive appearance with the lower stance, flared fenders, sportier bumpers and other M specific design cues.
Inside the cabin, the new X4 will get a more premium design. The new seating system will provide higher flexibility and comfort. The latest tech and safety features alongside with the advanced telematics will also be the step forward from the current generation.
2019 BMW X4: Powertrains
In the engine department, the new 2019 BMW X4 will offer the range of diesel and petrol units. The diesel range will include two more efficient 2.0-liter engines alongside with the 3.0-liter inline-6 petrol and diesel units. The new engine versions should be around 15 hp stronger than the current units. The fuel economy should be about 10 percent better.
The US-spec versions should get the 2.0-liter turbo four engine. It will come with the better output than the current 240 hp and 260 pound-feet of torque. The M performance model will also get stronger turbocharged V-6. It isn’t also excluded that diesel model would get stateside.
2019 BMW X4: Arrival, Price
As mentioned earlier, the new-gen X4 is expected to debut in mid-2018 which means as the 2019 BMW X4. It’s too early to speak about prices but we should not expect radical changes in the price range.
