After the arrival of the redesigned XT5 and changed naming nomenclature, Cadillac is working to expand its crossover SUV lineup. Despite it has already been late to the party it’s better late than never and GM’s luxury brand is already testing its all-new compact crossover model which will be the rival to models like the Audi Q3, Lexus NX, Mercedes GLA and BMW X1. Its debut is expected in the first half of the next year, so we expecting it as the 2019 Cadillac XT3. The new luxury crossover will adopt brand’s modern design language with many similarities with the larger XT5 and some details from Cadillac’s Escalade. We expect it with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine riding probably on GM’s D2XX platform.
2019 Cadillac XT3: Design
Cadillac wrapped the prototype of then new 2019 Cadillac XT3 in the thick camo in order to hide as much as possible. Despite the camo hides almost everything on the test car at a closer inspection we can get the clue about model’s design. Unsurprisingly, Cadillac’s new compact crossover will be similarly styled as the larger XT5 but with some details borrowed from the Escalade. Sharp angles are the part of Cadillac’s modern design philosophy and XT3 will mix that with other familiar details from brand’s vehicles.
The signature pentagonal grille with the honeycomb mesh will be flanked by headlights with the LED running lights. The profile of the model will be very similar to the larger XT5 while the rear will have the taillights which extend to the D pillar.
On the other hand, the XT3 seems to be slightly larger than its rivals. The body of the new crossover should be placed on the D2XX platform which underpins the Equinox and GMC Terrain.
We don’t have the pictures of model’s cabin but we expect it to share very similar design approach as the larger XT5. The model will come with brand’s latest CUE infotainment system and safety features. It will offer the room for 5 passengers and probably better legroom and cargo space than most of the rivals.
2019 Cadillac XT3: Powertrain
Considering that 2019 Cadillac XT3 will likely use the D2XX platform, it will offer both front- and all-wheel drive options. The model will also have a fully independent rear underpinning.
Under the hood, the XT3 will likely have the version of GM’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. All chances are that Caddy will pair this engine with the new nine-speed automatic transmission. The power could be around 250 hp with the torque about 260 pound-feet.
The new compact 2019 Cadillac XT3 should hit the market in mid-2018. The first estimation of the price predicts the base version available from low $30, 000.
