Cadillac will soon join the premium compact crossover class with its new 2019 Cadillac XT4 model. As the name suggests this model will have a smaller footprint than recently redesigned XT5 but should be slightly larger than most of its rivals which will include BMW X1, Mercedes GLA, and Audi Q3.
The first hint about this model came from brand’s boss Johan De Nysschen in 2015 and at this year Geneva Auto Show, Cadillac confirmed this crossover and also promised its arrival on the Old Continent. The model was also spotted while testing covered in the thick camo giving us an idea about its look. We also have some assumptions about its platform and powertrain.
2019 Cadillac XT4: Design
As per prevailing opinion, the new 2019 Cadillac XT4 will be based on the D2XX architecture which already underpins redesigned 2018 GMC Terrain and Chevy Equinox. This modern, lightweight platform is the front-drive based structure and seems like the natural solution for the new XT4. However, some reports made confusion with the statement that this model will utilize the E2XX platform which is the successor of the Epsilon II architecture. This platform underpins the Chevy Malibu and Buick Regal. The E2XX would provide better, car-like dynamics than the D2XX but we are more inclined to think that Cadillac will go with the latter option.
When it comes to the styling of the model, the thick camouflage on the porotype can’t hide similar edgy shape as on the XT5. What also seems to be obvious is that this model will have familiar pentagonal grille. The headlights will also follow the similar design principles as brand’s latest vehicles.
The rear pillar on the prototype model and rear bumper alongside with the exhaust setup also look very similar as on the XT5 and that will likely be the case with the taillights as well.
The model will also have the roofline which doesn’t slope fast toward the rear and subtly flared fenders. The pronounced belt line will also add to its appearance.
The interior of the model is also expected to get very similar treatment as seen on the new XT5. A similar dash design with the newest CUE infotainment interface will come with attractive trim options. The model will also offer plenty of luxuries and modern tech features including the safety package of active driver aids.
2019 Cadillac XT4: Powertrains
As we expect that 2019 Cadillac XT4 will ride on the platform shared with the new Equinox and Terrain, the powering options should also be the common thing. The 2.0-liter inline-4 engine equipped with the turbocharger should produce 250+ hp and torque of about 260 pound-feet. Expect it to come in the combination with the 9-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel drive will be standard and the all-wheel drive comes as the option.
However, in some reports, we can also find the suggestion that Cadillac could offer the plug-in hybrid version of this model as well.
2019 Cadillac XT4: Arrival, Price
The production of the 2019 Cadillac XT4 will likely be at the Orion Assembly plant near Detroit. The model is expected to arrive in the second half of 2018 with the starting price slightly above $30, 000.
