GMC’s smallest SUV, the Terrain entered the second generation for the 2018 model year. The all-new Terrain debuted at the 2017 North America Show and brand’s designers and engineers have done a great job on the new-generation model. Reshaped and styled according to brand’s new design language, the new version is both smaller in length and wheelbase but in same time significantly lighter while not sacrificing interior comfort. The new Terrain also offers the lineup of the turbocharged engines like the closely related Chevy Equinox and two models also share the same platform. The model also delivers new technologies starting from the base version and can also equip it with all luxuries you want. GMC again sells this model in SL, SLE, SLT and Denali trim options.
The 2019 GMC Terrain will return on the roads with minimal modifications in equipment and price. New color options and cosmetic options should be available. Mechanics and styling will continue unchanged.
2019 GMC Terrain: Design
For the second-generation version, GM has brought more interestingly styled, better aerodynamics, lighter and also slightly smaller Terrain. The compact crossover migrated to brands D2XX global platform which provides much improved structural rigidity and combined with reduced weight and improved driving experience. The model also unloaded 460 pounds of weight compared to the previous generation but also shortened the wheelbase by 5.2 inches and lost 3.2 inches in length.
It also adopted more expressive styling and carefully sculpted body combined with brand-specific exterior elements leaves the stronger visual impression than its previous form. The model carries the sleeker version of brand’s signature grille and stands out with nicely accentuated headlights. Sculpted hood and softer shape transitions combined with floating rear pillar also improve over the previous design. Different trim accents in each trim also add the unique styling sense to the variants.
Like on the outer side, the 2019 GMC Terrain will keep the same form inside while some equipment addition and regrouping will happen. What is sure, all Terrains will include large center infotainment display and Apple Car Play and Android Auto functionalities. The higher trims will bring larger screen and upgrades like power and heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, navigation, a sunroof, and more. The leather upholstery will be available in the SLT trim alongside more tech and luxury features. The Denali trim will boast unique grille, 19-inch wheel, plenty of chrome accents and plush interior.
The Terrain will provide 29.6 cubes of the cargo space and the flat-folding second row can open a usable 63.3 cubes for the cargo.
The model will also include an array of driver assistance systems including surround view vision system, vibrating safety seat, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, low-speed automatic braking, etc.
2019 GMC Terrain: Powertrain
The engine range of the 2019 GMC Terrain will include the same turbocharged units including the fuel-efficient diesel option. The first turbo four-cylinder has the capacity of 1.5 liters and can produce 170 hp and torque of 203 lb-ft. The second petrol turbo standard on the top Denali will make 252 hp and torque of 260 lb-ft. Both engines will work combined with the 9-speed Hydra Matic gearbox.
The most fuel-efficient Terrain will have a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel under the hood. This engine develops 137 hp and torque of 240 lb-ft. The diesel Terrain comes with the six-speed manual transmission.
The diesel version will provide 32 mpg combined while the smaller petrol will return about 28 mpg combined. A more powerful petrol-sipping engine will down to 24 mpg combined.
