An increasing number of automakers are launching all-electric models and after the success of the first crossovers Jaguars also goes electric with the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV. The I-Pace took the wraps off recently at the plant in Graz and Tesla has just got the respectable rival.
Jag’s electric crossover promises 200+ miles on the single charge and the better performance than many sports models. The styling is familiar form from brand’s other crossovers and the model also has a functional interior. It also comes loaded with a number of touchscreen and other modern technologies. The I-Pace will go to production in S, SE, HSE, and the top limited-run First Edition trims.
2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV: Structure, Design
The 2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV has got the dedicated electric platform with the design different from what uses Jag’s other crossovers and sedans. The I-Pace has integrated the lithium-ion battery to vehicle’s structure. The battery takes a low position, below the passenger space and helps the model to achieve the 50:50 weight distribution providing great handling.
The I-Pace is 184.3 inches long and the wheels base stretches at 117.7 inches. The total weight is almost 4, 800 pounds.
From the visual point, the I-Pace is Jag’s familiar shape and wears brand’s familiar elements. The gaping grille has the shape similar to other models but it is just there for the visual purpose as it doesn’t have the function for engine cooling. The profile is similar to the E-pace and the model has tall rear end design and slim taillights.
Interior of the I-Pace is also familiar form. The model offers 25.3 cubes of the cargo space with all seats up. More cargo room opens when the rear seat folds and then model delivers 51 cubes for the cargo.
The I-Pace has the dash covered with touchscreens and in front of the driver is a 12.3-inch instrument cluster. The part of brand’s InControl Touch Pro System is a pair of touchscreens in the center of the dash. The upper 10-inch unit takes the responsibility for audio and navigation functions. The lower 5-inch unit manages convenience and climate controls. The model will also offer the head-up display. The car will also use an Amazon Alexa Skillset.
The model will include the moonroof and will offer the fabric and two leather options. The cabin will also look better thanks to the machined aluminum, gloss black and wood finish.
2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV: Powertrain, Mileage
The 2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV will use a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and it promises the range of 240 miles. The battery can be recharged to 80 percent in 40 minutes by using the 100 kW DC Fast Charger. The 50-kW DC Fast charger will do the same job in 85 minutes. With the level 2 home charger, 10 hours will be achievable in 10 hours while the full recharge will need 13 hours.
The battery feds two electric motors one responsible for each axle. So, the I-Pace is the all-wheel drive by default. Two motors provide the combined output of 294 kW or 394 horsepower. The model uses a single-speed transmission.
The electric crossover has air suspension and should hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV: Arrival, Price
Jaguar offers guarantee period for the battery for 8 years or 100, 000 miles. The 2019 Jaguar I-Pace EV will go on sale in the second half of the year. The base price targets around $70k.
