The all-new, ultra-luxury SUV, the 2019 Rolls Royce Cullinan will join soon the Bentley Bentayga. Rolls Royce revealed its plans to offer the SUV model in early 2015 and shortly after first test mules appeared on the roads. After two years of testing the model looks close to production-ready form despite it was fully covered in the camouflage. The all-terrain, slab-sided SUV will arrive on the aluminum-intensive platform that underpins the eight-generation Phantom sedan. It will also borrow sedan’s powertrain as well as the tech and safety equipment. Brand’s familiar styling elements are also easy to recognize on the prototype.
2019 Rolls Royce Cullinan: Platform, Design
Like the latest Phantom sedan, the all-new 2019 Rolls Royce Cullinan will be based on the aluminum spaceframe architecture that will also underpin other potential vehicles from this brand. This modern architecture, as Rolls Royse says, provides a new level of ride refinement and technology. It is light and more rigid than brand’s previous designs. The new SUV will, however, ride on the shorter platform version than sedan model but will, of course, feature higher ride height and all-terrain capability as Rolls Royce says. However, the brand also promises the ultra-comfortable ride quality on all surfaces thanks to the new platform and suspension system.
Styling-wise, the new Cullinan will feature up-right body design and will share brand’s signature elements with the newest Phantom sedan. The new SUV will be an authentic vehicle on the road and will be defined with brand’s flat, tall grille and familiar chiseled lines. The headlights will be rectangular in shape and with LED graphics while the front bumper will have a number of air flow openings.
The prototype rides on the seven-spoke wheels and model has tall, upright profile panels with horizontally chiseled character line. The rear has raked rear glass, large taillights and sporty shaped bumper.
Inside, the all-new Cullinan will be extremely richly appointed and loaded with the latest tech. The cabin will also be well sound insulated and equipped with the infotainment system from the new Phantom. The model will also include usual entertainment systems, Wifi hotspot, navigation, head-up display, etc.
The safety is also one of the priorities and an array of assistance systems will make ride easier and safer. The model will rely on the systems like adaptive cruise control, surround-view system, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, night vision, etc.
2019 Rolls Royce Cullinan: Powertrain
Under the hood of the 2019 Rolls Royce Cullinan will be for the new Phantom designed bi-turbo 6.75-liter V-12 engine. The power output should be similar to Phantom’s where this engine is tuned to 563 hp and torque of 664 pound-feet. The V-12 will come in the combination with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The model will also possess the all-terrain, all-wheel-drive capability.
However, wherever the model goes Rolls Royce promises exceptional ride quality which it calls the “magic carpet” ride. That will be possible thanks to the new rigid platform structure and newly designed suspension.
2019 Rolls Royce Cullinan: Arrival, Price
The 2019 Rolls Royce Cullinan will arrive in the first half of 2018. The price will be over $300k for all model and eventually climb above $400k.
